Quality
| The Roland offers true photo quality printing on a number of different media. Photo paper, Backlit, Artists Canvas, Fine Art papers, Adhesive Vinyl, Banners and many other media. The quality and versatility can be sensational. Apart from the thick artists canvas, all media dry immediately, the artists canvas takes about 30 minutes to be totaly dry. Some of the media are completely waterproof when printed and are suitable for outdoor signage. A long time lab employee, when recently viewing a 1.2 x 2.4 metre print we had produced for a client commented that he thought it was the highest quality large photographic print he had ever seen |
Life Expectancy - Longer than photographs
| Typically, wide format ink jet printers use dye's that in fact have a very short fade resistance period. Under standard test conditions comparitive figures for some are less than a year! For photographs in the same conditions 8 - 30 years, and for prints from the Roland 120 years! These figures do not represent how long any image will last before fading as this depends upon individual conditions. What they do represent are comparative fade rates. The ability for longer life images usually hinges on the use of pigmented rather than dye inks. One major advantage of micro piezo printers over traditional thermal ink jet printers is the manner in which they handle pigmented inks. As the name implies, thermal ink jet printers use heat to virtualy boil the ink as it's being applied. One down side of this is with pigment inks, this heating can cause a loss of vibrancy in the colours of the prints. Micro Piezo technology uses electronic charges to transfer the ink, not applying heat and therefore not having the problem of the inks vibrancy being reduced, whilst still having the archival benefits of pigments. |
